Prohibition

As I eased my diesel to a halt on the shoulder of the mountain road the rain was transforming into a heavy groppel. It was going to be a wet miserable walk in search of that big tom I caught a glimpse of earlier in the week.

The rain covered brush was creating a wicking effect within my camouflage pants with each step I take on the banks of the tiny mountain stream.
With all my senses focused on all the sounds in the forest on this overcast spring day I nearly stepped on a old whiskey bottle half buried in the stream bottom. Written on the bottle read "federal law forbids sale or reuse of this bottle".

Todays turkey hunt has just unveiled a piece of our local history presenting itself in the form of old brown 4/5 quart whiskey bottle from the prohibition days.
Standing there holding this dirt and sand covered bottle in solitude alone in the forest I couldn't help thinking how different our culture has changed over the years from what it was during prohibition.

What is it that keeps drawing you back to the forest and the adventures that await.
